<hi style=afpcap>The B-47 was primarily a long range strategic bomber although a small number were fitted with various cameras and electronic sensors to perform reconnaissance. The first of these was the RB-47E which at the time was the world's fastest, day or night, long range photo reconnaissance aircraft. The Air Force operated the RB-47B for a while although these were operated on training duties pending the delivery of the RB-47E. This version of the B-47 was fitted with a camera system in the bomb bay and featured a slightly elongated nose containing a revised radar. The illustration shows an RB-47E in company with a B-47E showing the difference in the nose profile. </hi>
